Shot in the mountains of Samana Province, Dominican Republic, rapper-singer Melymel’s new audiovisual “Si No Te Amara” stands as a poignant reminder that real love starts with honoring one’s self.
Directed by Gabriel Lantigua (this year’s recipient of Best Pop Rock Video at the 2018 VideoClips Awards in the Dominican Republic), the video sees Melymel joined by award-winning actor and singer Javier Grullon in a scene of relational strife. “It was a great opportunity to shoot a music video whose goal is to deliver an important social message in the times we are currently living,” says Lantigua, perhaps pointing to a serious of conversations that have made pop culture headlines concerning domestic violence, femicide and the #MeToo movement.
“This video symbolizes something that both women and men have all been through,” explains Melymel of the song, which doesn’t depict any physical abuse, but highlights emotional neglect and irresponsibility all the same. “If you are going through it – at the end – it’s not worth it.”
